Romance of the Three Kingdoms

Yu Jin (于禁), also known as Yuwen, was a general serving under Cao Cao during the late Eastern Han dynasty and Three Kingdoms period of Chinese history. He was initially part of Bao Xin's army before joining Cao Cao's ranks.

Early in his career with Cao Cao, Yu Jin distinguished himself through strict military discipline and battlefield bravery. He often served as a vanguard, earning the trust of Cao Cao through his dedication and adherence to regulations.

Despite his earlier reputation, Yu Jin's legacy is largely tarnished by his surrender to Guan Yu during the Battle of Fancheng. Trapped by floodwaters, he yielded to save his own life, a decision widely criticized as cowardice and a betrayal of Cao Cao's trust.

After being captured, Yu Jin was later released and returned to Wei, but his reputation was forever stained. He died shortly after, deeply ashamed by a painting depicting his surrender shown to him by Cao Pi. He served Cao Cao from nearly the start to almost the end, making him the longest serving officer in Cao Cao's army.
